Savannah Davison has been effective so far in her almost two conferences with PLDT in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

But the Filipino-Canadian’s game will be tested on Thursday when the High Speed Hitters clash with a Petro Gazz squad bolstered by its biggest addition: Brooke van Sickle.

However, she does not see the need to change her focus in the upcoming matchup. Her team’s goal remains the same after all.

SCHEDULE: PVL All-Filipino Conference 2024

“You have to treat it the same. You can’t walk into a game saying that this is gonna be any different, because you’ll make it too complex, right?” Davison said when asked about how she will approach the anticipated meeting with Van Sickle.

The Filipino-American Angel led Petro Gazz to the recent Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League title before a jittery showing in her PVL debut against Strong Group.

Davison, meanwhile, immediately showed her scoring power after being the best scorer in the last All-Filipino Conference.

Not complacent

And she still has not let up in her second conference after a 19-point performance in PLDT’s opening game against Galeries and top scoring once again with 13 points en route to the High Speed Hitters’ second consecutive win.

“My head is kinda geared towards Petro Gazz as a team for now and we’ll see how we show up on the day,” Davison said.

PLDT has been perfect so far in its journey in the new conference with Davison spearheading last conference’s fifth place finishers. But the High Speed Hitters are not about to start being complacent early in the competition.

They admittedly have limited time preparing for Petro Gazz after shifting all their focus into its previously most urgent assignment in Ivy Lacsina-led Nxled.“Our time to prepare will be limited to only tomorrow (Wednesday) and Friday so it’ll be difficult,” coach Rald Ricafort said. “But we need to work quickly.”

“Whatever we can get in practice and viewing, we need to be able to execute,” he added as PLDT scouts its next assignment, which was playing Choco Mucho at press time.

The competition leveled up after several teams revamped their rosters in the offseason and having more experience than her counterpart, Davison believes that she will have some advantage leading to their encounter.

“I think volleyball here in the Philippines is always gonna be challenging. I think it’s the confidence that kind of sizes up [what] the girls bring and it’s fun to play with,” Davison said.

“And you can tell based on the first two games, everyone’s elevating their game, everyone’s progressing, working harder, you know, trying new things,” she said.

“And I think that just tells the whole tale towards what the rest of the season’s gonna be like. So I’m excited to see what they bring and you know, I’m excited to see how we show up,” she added.
