MANILA, Philippines — Angel Canino treated the new-look University of the East with respect, unleashing an efficient game to lead La Salle to its fourth win in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

The reigning UAAP MVP poured in 17 points on 16-of-31 attacks clip to lead the defending champion to a dominant 25-21, 25-18, 25-10 victory over UE on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“My mindset was to treat them with respect because our coaches wanted to treat all opponents with the same respect. I just did my job inside the court,” said Canino in Filipino after tallying nine digs and seven excellent receptions.

MANILA, Philippines — Casiey Dongallo had her lowest scoring output of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament as the University of the East sustained its fourth straight loss to defending champion La Salle, which she considers the gold standard in the league.

Dongallo, who was averaging 26.0 points after the first four games, was limited to 15 points in their 21-25, 18-25, 10-25 loss to La Salle on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines–National University is heating up in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament,  prevailing over Far Eastern University for its fourth straight victory on Wednesday.

Alyssa Solomon, Bella Belen and Vange Alinsug continued to be a three-headed prong that powered the Lady Bulldogs to a 25-17, 13-25, 25-17, 25-20 win after their opening game loss to University of Santo Tomas.

MANILA, Philippines–La Salle is slowly regaining its top form after beating another slumping squad in University of the East, 25-21, 25-18, 25-10, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Angel Canino led the Lady Spikers once again with her offensive prowess, firing 17 points on 16 attacks and 52 percent attack efficiency while also helping La Salle’s defense with a block, nine excellent digs and seven excellent receptions.

MANILA, Philippines — Joshua Retamar and Jade Disquitado tallied their career-highs in scoring to lift defending champion National University past erstwhile-unbeaten Far Eastern University, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 18-16, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Retamar matched his career-high 12 points for the second straight game, highlighted by six aces and four blocks, and dished out 22 excellent sets as the 19-year-old Disquitado unleashed his UAAP career-high 29 points off 24 spikes, four aces, and a block to force a three-way tie on top with FEU and La Salle with identical 4-1 records.

Having obviously gotten over the pain of their first defeat in Season 86 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, defending champion La Salle returns to action on Wednesday, seeking to put a winning streak together again when the Lady Spikers battle troubled University of the East (UE).

Angel Canino and the rest of the towering La Salle crew take the Mall of Asia Arena floor at 2 p.m., heavily favored over the Lady Warriors, who before the weekend had their coach, Jerry Yee, suspended by the UAAP.

MANILA, Philippines–Setters took center stage in the second week of the UAAP Season 86 volleyball tournaments — two of whom shone in their respective squads’ strong runs of form midway through the first round of prelims play.

University of Santo Tomas’ sophomore playmaker Cassie Carballo embodied grace under pressure in orchestrating a five-set comeback win over Far Eastern University to remain as the last unbeaten team in the women’s tilt at 4-0.
