MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo coach Sergio Veloso lauded Sobe Buena for displaying a “strong mind in hard moments” after putting on the finishing touches to stave off Adamson in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Buena drilled 22 points including the clutch kills in the fourth set as the Blue Eagles ended a two-game skid with a 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 win over Adamson. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–Ateneo squandered a set that could have gone its way before downing Adamson, 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, on Wednesday night in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

Lyann De Guzman struck the Lady Falcons without letup together with Sophia Buena, especially in the final frame on the way to securing their second win in six games.

“We overcame (the Adamson comeback) by being mentally strong and aggressive,’’ said De Guzman after firing 22 attacks apart from her eight receptions. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas wants no letup after matching the school’s best start in the UAAP women’s volleyball in 13 years with six straight victories.

Angge Poyos and Regina Jurado helped the Tigresses seize a 6-0 record after sweeping University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24, on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena. The victory tied a UST record back in Season 73 in 2011 when the Tigresses were still led by Aiza Maizo and Rhea Dimaculangan. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Em Banagua has been University of Santo Tomas’ most consistent middle blocker in their blistering 6-0 start in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

UST, which doesn’t have the tallest roster in the league, is pushing the 6-foot Banagua to deliver in her rookie season. And she proved to be instrumental in the school’s best start since Season 73 in 2011. FULL STORY

UST frustrated UP, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24, to keep its unbeaten streak moving on Wednesday at the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

Rookie hitter Angeline Poyos powered the Tigresses with 22 points and four aces while Xyza Gula added 12 attacks out of 14 points, propelling them to a sixth straight victory as they inched toward sweeping the first round.

“All the hard work has been paying off. This is our best start so far and although these victories have boosted our morale, it’s still a long tournament ahead,’’ said UST coach Kungfu Reyes. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas ended a three-game skid after pouncing on winless University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-14, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Reigning MVP Ybañez brought back the winning ways of the Golden Spikers with a game-high 21 points built on 18 kills, two blocks, and an ace to force a three-way tie in the fourth seed with Ateneo and Adamson. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — The National University Lady Bulldogs are not to be outdone in the shoe game in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

NU has been rocking the Curry Brand after sweeping the Season 84 two years ago to end the school’s 65-year title drought.
