MANILA, Philippines — After tallying his first win as University of the Philippines coach, Oliver Almadro believes the Fighting Maroons have the right pieces to improve their record in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

UP finally ended a 17-game losing streak after overcoming Casiey Dongallo and the University of the East, 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, to rise to a 1-6 record on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines — Pling Baclay proved her worth for University of the Philippines with a season-high seven blocks to end the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament first round on a high note.

Filling in the big shoes of reigning Best Middle Blocker Niña Ytang, Baclay rose to the occasion in UP’s 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17 win over the skidding University of the East to end a 17-game skid on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University coach Manolo Refugia seeks more consistency from the Lady Tamaraws heading to the second round after keeping their Final Four hopes on track as the solo No.4 seed in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

FEU tallied a season-high 15 blocks to take down Ateneo, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21, and grab the solo fourth seed with a 4-3 record to end the first round on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines–University of the Philippines ended a 17-game losing streak in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament after a 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17 victory over University of the East Saturday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Steph Bustrillo carried the Fighting Maroons with 24 points built around 22 attacks and two aces while Pling Baclay, stepping up for teammate Niña Ytang, guarded the net with a season-high seven blocks for UP’s first win in seven games in Season 86.

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University leaned on the trio of Martin Bugaoan, Dryx Saavedra, and Lirick Mendoza to sweep Ateneo, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Bugaoan led the collective effort of the Tamaraws with 12 points, hitting 11 of his 19 attack attempts, to finish the first round at 6-1 tied with defending champion National University. The Bulldogs, who beat the Tamaraws in five sets last March 6, still hold the top spot due to superior points.
