MANILA, Philippines — Savi Davison’s dominating presence has fueled the surge of the PLDT High Speed Hitters to the top of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Davison continued to showcase her scoring prowess to lead PLDT’s perfect week with an average of 21.0 points in two games to force a three-way share of the lead with a 5-1 win-loss record tied with defending champion Creamline and Choco Mucho. With her consistent display of dominance and versatility, Davison earned her first PVL Press Corps Player of the Week accolade for the period of March 19 to 23 in the flourishing professional league organized by Sports Vision. The Filipino-Canadian spiker came out firing with 21 points and 16 excellent receptions to beat erstwhile unbeaten Choco Mucho, 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 11-25, 15-13, on Tuesday at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. In her showdown against reigning MVP Sisi Rondina, Davison made sure not to waste their 10-day preparation to lead the collective effort of the High Speed Hitters, who also drew stellar playmaking from Kim Fajardo to end the Flying Titans’ five-game winning streak. “We’ve worked really hard to get here. Although this game had its ups and downs, we pushed through and that’s the most important (thing). I’m very happy about that,” said Davison after delivering 18 kills and three blocks. “I think we just have to concentrate on them as a whole. Everyone on that team is a hard worker. They’re very talented. think we were blessed with the 10 days to really prepare for this much and I think it really paid off — studying this team.” Davison, a consistent Player of the Week candidate, bested her teammate Fajardo, Rondina, Chery Tiggo’s Eya Laure, Graze Bombita of Galeries Tower, Creamline star Tots Carlos, and Cignal setter Gel Cayuna for the weekly citation given by print and online scribes covering the league, which is also being aired live at www.pvl.ph. The former US NCAA Division 1 player, who played for the University of Oklahoma and New Mexico State University, sustained her fine form with another 21-point performance to sweep Farm Fresh, 25-9, 25-13, 25-21, for their third straight victory on Saturday at Ynares Center in Antipolo. “I think I’ve been preaching it all conference long, I just want to be the go-to. I just want to be the person that people can rely on so I’m happy that I’m becoming more confident in that role,” said Davison after dropping 17 kills, three blocks, and an ace on top of seven excellent receptions. “I think we just need to show up and just not be complacent like coach said. We’re just doing our jobs, making it simple, and just controlling our side of the court.” PLDT faces Akari on April 2 at Philsports Arena after the Holy Week break but Davison and the High Speed Hitters have no plans of wasting the momentum they built in their last three games.
