MANILA, Philippines–Barangay Ginebra got it together in the second half to slip past sister team but fierce rival Magnolia, 87-77, in the Easter Sunday nightcap of the PBA Philippine Cup doubleheader.

Maverick Ahanmisi scored 16 points, including a tough triple with 36.3 remaining to douse a late Hotshots fightback and seal the deal for the Gin Kings, who rose to 3-1 in the standings.

“I like what our guys did. We came from that tough loss against Meralco … and they really showed [tonight] that they care—about their fans, about their performance, and they came in here and I thought they were really locked in,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said on the heels of the triumph at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“This is the way we expect to play and hope to play every time,” he added.
