MANILA, Philippines — Angge Poyos made the most of the Holy Week break to recover physically and mentally as she resumed her impressive rookie campaign for the University of Santo Tomas with a new career-high 31 points.

Recharged from a 10-day break after their tough four-set loss to National University, Poyos set a new modern UAAP women’s volleyball rookie scoring record on Wednesday.

She nailed 27 kills, three aces, and a block to help clinch UST’s ticket to the Final Four with a 22-25. 25-20, 26-24, 25-20 victory over Adamson on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Bianca Plaza stepped up in Em Banagua’s absence to help University of Santo Tomas clinch the first Final Four ticket in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday.

Aside from Angge Poyos’ new career-high 31 points, Plaza was instrumental in UST’s bounce-back win as she had a perfect 6-of-6 attacking clip and the set-clinching ace in the third set. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–Angge Poyos erupted with a season-high 31 points as University of Santo Tomas seized the first Final Four spot in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the expense of Adamson, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-20, on Wednesday night.

Revitalized following a long break, Poyos hammered the enemy with 27 attacks on top of three aces and a block in carrying the Tigresses to their ninth victory with only one setback to show.

“This is a comeback game for us. I used the break to reflect and recover. I’m thankful that I was able to contribute and give my 100 percent in this game,’’ said Poyos after matching the output of former UST star Eya Laure in Season 84 against Ateneo. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–National University sank its fangs deep into a pitiful prey with a brutal 25-14, 25-14, 25-12 demolition of University of the East on Wednesday at the resumption of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

Bella Belen came up with another splendid all-around performance after compiling 13 points, four blocks, 10 digs and 10 receptions and Alyssa Solomon powered the Lady Bulldogs’ offensive onslaught in netting their eighth win in 10 games. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers picked up where they left off as they resumed their UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball campaign with a 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23 win over the Adamson Falcons on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Coming off a huge five-set win over defending champion National University before the Holy Week break, UST banked on reigning MVP Josh Ybañez, who delivered another all-around game with 25 points, 27 excellent receptions, and 12 digs. FULL STORY

KungFu Reyes said that he is somewhat glad that University of Santo Tomas’ first loss in Season 86 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament came when it did.

“We learned a lot from that,” Reyes said as his Golden Tigresses had a full week to lick their wounds and address what they need to for the resumption of their campaign on Wednesday against Adamson at Mall of Asia Arena. “The good thing about that (their first loss) was that it came in the second game of the second round.
