Patrombon waxes hot in India Futures tilt

Jeson Patrombon reached  the second round in singles and the quarterfinals in the doubles with a Taiwanese partner in the  India Futures F12 at Gandhinagar Club in Chennai, India, Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Filipino bounced back from a lethargic second set before ousting local bet Chandril Sood in the $10,000 tourney to pick  his second ATP ranking point for the year.

Patrombon will next face Indian Ajai Selvaraj, who continued to flash solid form starting in the qualifying round by eliminating eighth seed Wang Chieh-fu of Chinese Taipei, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

“This is how hard it is to even earn one ATP point here in the pro circuit,” said Patrombon’s coach Manny Tecson. “It doesn’t matter if you are playing a qualifier or a main draw player, you can be beaten by anyone if your mind is not up to the task to deal with the different situations in your match.

“That is why I believe Jeson is getting back to his old form and is getting stronger both physically and mentally in each match and training session we do here in the circuit,” Tecson added.

Homegrown tandem

Patrombon later joined hands with Wang to down  the homegrown tandem of Fariz Mohammed and Vignash Peranamallur, 6-3, 6-0.

They will tangle next with the second-seeded pair of Saket Mynani and Arun-Prakah Rajagopahan, who downed compatriots Sidharth Rawat and Rakshay Thakkar, 6-2, 6-3.

Patrombon more than proved his worth against the power-hitting Sood who had to go through three qualifying matches to reach the main draw.

It was  only the first time Patrombon won back-to-back singles matches since making the second round of the India F11. He earlier beat Indonesian Davis Cup player Sasongko in three sets.

Patrombon prevailed over Servaraj in the first round of the same event last year, 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-0.
