MANILA, Philippines — Thea Gagate kept La Salle afloat against the tough challenge of the gritty University of the East to extend their winning streak to seven games in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Missing Angel Canino for the second straight game due to a cut on her right forearm, La Salle had another test of character but Gagate came to the rescue with 22 points built on 17 attacks, three blocks, and two aces to survive UE in five sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — As Angel Canino continues to miss games, the Lady Spikers also continue to miss the on-court presence of their star player in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

In their second straight game without Canino, the Lady Spikers were pushed to their limits by the gritty University of the East Lady Warriors in five sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12,  at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo, speaking for head coach Ramil De Jesus, said La Salle has yet to full adjust to the absence of the reigning MVP on the floor. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–For the second straight game, La Salle showed up without its prolific hitter and luckily won by the skin of its teeth.

The Lady Spikers found themselves in dire straits once more sans Angel Canino and scraped past University of the East, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday night.

“It was a bad win. Although we won, it didn’t look good for us. I guess we are really being tested,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo. They also narrowly escaped tailender University of the Philippines in four sets last time out. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws are eager to prove they are no longer pushovers as they inch closer to reaching the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four.

FEU continued to boost its Final Four chances after sweeping Adamson, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23, to keep the fourth place with an improved 6-4 record on Tuesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–Jean Asis has been aspiring for a Final Four atmosphere in a Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws outfit.

This could be it for the resilient middle blocker as they marched closer toward their goal on Tuesday with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 whipping of Adamson at the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

“We made those seasons that we didn’t make it to the semifinals our motivation,” said Asis after helping the Lady Tamaraws inch to the post-elimination playoffs with their sixth win out of 10 games. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University inched closer to a Final Four berth after sweeping Adamson, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22, for its fourth straight win in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Tamaraws banked on Ariel Cacao’s superb playmaking with 17 excellent sets as they outplayed the Falcons in attacking, 42-30, to tighten their hold of the top seed with a 9-1 record. FULL STORY

Getting a wake-up call just before the Lenten break was probably the best thing that happened to University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Season 86 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

A 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 back-to-earth beating taken at the hands of National University gave the Golden Tigresses something to reflect on and a firm idea on what they need to do for the remainder of the season.

“We have to maintain our grit,” Cassie Carballo told the Inquirer in Filipino as they brace for the second game of a new beginning when they battle University of the Philippines on Wednesday. FULL STORY
