MANILA, Philippines—Letran made easy work of Perpetual Help, 25-21, 25-20, 30-28, at San Juan arena on Saturday but coach Oliver Almadro is far from impressed.

Despite starting on a 2-0 slate to begin the young NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament, Almadro stressed that he’s still tempering the expectations for the Lady Knights.

“I’m still tempering the expectations. I feel like this isn’t our best yet but I always tell them that our results aren’t always better than our performance,” said Almadro.

“Let’s not look at the results but let’s look at their performance in every point, every day and every game. We’re not even counting [our wins.]”

Gia Maquilang top-scored for Letran with 19 points while Natalie Estreller orchestrated the offense with 18 excellent sets.

Shaila Omipon matched Maquilang with 19 points, herself, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Altas dropped to a 1-1 card.

Arellano, meanwhile, also got a sweeping victory at the expense of Mapua, 25-21, 25-21, 27-25, behind Pauline De Guzman’s efforts.

De Guzman powered the Lady Chiefs to a 1-1 card with 12 points. Heart Villaflores also helped carry the load with eight to her name.

The Lady Cardinals joined the middle part of the standings’ logjam at 1-1 but not without Raissa Ricablanca and Roxie Dela Cruz scoring 20 and 11, respectively, in the process.
