MANILA, Philippines–With improvement the only thing left for them in the current All-Filipino Conference, Trisha Tubu and Farm Fresh snapped a five-game skid with a 25-10, 25-15, 25-22 victory over Strong Group in the Premier Volleyball League on Thursday.

Tubu scattered 13 points, 12 coming from attacks, to help the eliminated Foxies to their third win in 10 games in what could be their best finish, win-loss wise, since they joined the league in the Invitational Conference last year.

“Thankful na nakuha ulit namin yung win after ng consecutive losses namin sa mga past few games namin,” Tubu said. “Maganda ito na paghuhugutan namin para sa last game namin.”.

Caitlin Viray, who has been seeing extended playing minutes in the recent games of Farm Fresh, showed her worth after pouring in 11 points built on eight attacks, two blocks and an ace despite only coming off the bench in the second and third frames.

“Siguro yung maglaro kami ng maayos, regardless kung sino yung kalaban namin, kailangan dapat parehas lang yung mindset namin and dapat laban kami hanggang matapos yung game,” Viray said.

Farm Fresh’s win over the Athletics is only its first win since stunning Chery Tiggo early in the conference.

The Foxies immediately vented their frustrations on the hapless Strong Group, who dropped its tenth consecutive game, storming to an 11-1 lead in the opening salvo, a lead that was too big for the Athletics to come back from.

Strong Group tried to get back in the game and carried some of the momentum it got from a closer second set action to the deciding frame where it matched every attempt by the Foxies until the end.

The Athletics even managed to come up with the lead for some time but Farm Fresh was not going to let go of its hopes to end a winning drought.

“Pag-gel pa namin is yun yung nagiging mas matatag this conference kasi given na bago yung sistema namin so sobrang hirap na i-adjust agad,” Tubu said.

“Yung pagtulong-tulong po ng team, nakaka-tulong po yun kahit na bagong sistema, and maraming adjustment, sobrang laking tulong lahat po is nagbibigay and nagpeperform,” she added.

Behind by just a point, Sofia Ildefonso and Viray joined hands to turn the tide for the Foxies down the stretch. Ildefonso punched through a cross court kill to tie the game at 22-all.

Viray nailed a pair of cross court hits, including the game-clincher, while Ildefonso put one up off the Athletics’ hands, allowing three straight points for Farm Fresh in the end game.
