MANILA, Philippines–UST clawed the final twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament by beating defending champion La Salle anew,  22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15   Saturday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines — Angel Canino has returned to action in time for La Salle’s crucial final elimination game against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament after missing five games due to a cut on her right forearm.

The reigning MVP on Saturday didn’t start but she checked in early in the first set and scored her first four points right away as La Salle and UST fight for the last twice-to-beat bonus on Saturday in front of a soldout Smart Araneta Coliseum. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — La Salle forced a playoff for the last twice-to-beat bonus in the Final Four against defending champion National University after ending the elimination round with six straight wins in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament

JM Ronquillo unleashed 21 points on 60 percent attack rate to lift La Salle past the No.4 University of Santo Tomas,25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, in front of a jampacked Saturday crowd at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Vince Maglinao also chipped in 19 points and six digs for the Green Spikers. Noel Kampton had 18 points and nine excellent receptions. Nat Del Pillar nailed seven blocks for the second straight game to finish with eight points, as libero Menard Guerrero tallied 16 receptions and 11 digs. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–Casiey Dongallo wrapped her rookie year with University of the East (UE) with a 23-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-22 victory against University of the Philippines (UP) at the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Dongallo, the promising freshman hitter of the Lady Warriors, poured in 28 points built from 25 attacks, two blocks and ace to help UE break a five-game losing skid and finish with a 3-11 record, its best since 2019. FULL STORY

De La Salle University (DLSU) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) will be seeing a lot of each other in the coming weeks, and whether that starts with Angel Canino’s comeback game for the defending champion Lady Spikers on Saturday is the question bigger than the result of the game itself.

Out of their last five games but seen involved in the warm-ups the last time, Canino is expected to finally suit up in the 6 p.m. game against the Golden Tigresses at Smart Araneta Coliseum and again make La Salle the feared side in the 86th Season of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

UST, meanwhile, was never penciled to go this far with a plucky, youth-laden team, and coach KungFu Reyes has no qualms in the role his charges have played thus far. FULL STORY
