Aussie Open champ leads Olivarez cast

THREE emerging tennis stars led by 2009 Australian Open junior doubles champion Francis Casey Alcantara will see action in the second Olivarez-Philta Open tennis championships which reel off Aug. 10 at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.

Alcantara recently donned the national colors in the Davis Cup tie against Pakistan.  He will tag along Fil-Italian Marc Reyes and age-group stalwart Pablo Olivarez II, who expressed their intention to play in the tourney which also lured veterans Patrick John Tierro, Rolando Ruel Jr., Elbert Anasta and defending champion Johnny Arcilla.

Reyes was finalist in the PCA Open two years ago and is playing in the men’s circuit, while Olivarez is one of the most promising players having played in the United States.

Maika Jane Tanpoco will spearhead the women’s side along with Clarice Patrimonio, Marian Jade Capadocia, Tamitha Olivarez-Nguyen and Marinel Rudas.

The P300,000 tournament, which will run for two weeks, is supported by Palawan Pawnshop Express Pera Padala through Philta regional vice president and Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.

The event will also have contests in women’s singles and doubles, boys and girls singles and doubles, interclub, team play and intercollegiate team championships.
