MANILA, Philippines — Capturing their fourth consecutive PVL All-Filipino Conference championship would be extra special for Jema Galanza after a challenging campaign for the Creamline Cool Smashers.

Galanza, who sizzled in the semifinal round, continued to rise to the occasion for Creamline dropping 20 points to help beat sister team Choco Mucho, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16, and inch a win closer to their eighth overall championship on Thursday in front of 17,457 fans at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“We went through so much, we struggled a lot. If you look at it, this is not the Creamline you’ve known,” said Galanza after tallying 18 attacks and two blocks on top of 13 excellent receptions. “But that’s just how it is because we’re not perfect and the level of competition is improving.” FULL STORY

Creamline moved within just a win of an eighth Premier Volleyball League crown after dealing Choco Mucho 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 heartbreak in Game 1 of the All-Filipino Conference Finals late Thursday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jema Galanza provided for the Cool Smashers 20 points from 18 kills and two blocks. She also had 13 excellent receptions while Tots Carlos produced 17 points, 16 coming from attacks and 12 excellent digs on the defensive end. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines–Petro Gazz drew first blood in the PVL All-Filipino Conference race for the bronze medal after surviving Chery Tiggo, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, 27-29, 15-12, on Thursday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Brooke van Sickle anchored the Angels with a new career-high of 36 points highlighted by 31 attacks, four blocks and an ace. The Filipino-American also caught 11 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.

“I couldn’t do it without my teammates, right? It’s a six-man sport and I didn’t realize that I had that many points. I kinda think maybe it was a miscount (laughs),” Van Sickle said after another solid performance. FULL STORY

Choco Mucho has worked its way up the PVL to become a legitimate championship contender, and in this All-Filipino Conference, showed its readiness to win it all for the first time in franchise history after sweeping the semifinals.

And again, standing in the Flying Titans’ way is an old tormentor in Creamline which is back in full force starting in the 6 p.m. series opener on Thursday at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

“All I can say is that we’ve come a long way,” captain Maddie Madayag, a Choco Mucho pioneer, said shortly after sealing a second straight title series appearance by blanking Petro Gazz on Sunday night. “Until now, I still can’t believe we’re here already. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Jaja Santiago will be with Chery Tiggo when it opens its bronze series against Petro Gazz in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference but don’t expect her to suit up on Thursday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Hopes were high when the 6-foot-5 middle blocker attended Chery Tiggo’s practice but she won’t risk playing with her Japanese citizenship is still in the process.

“You will see me there but I won’t play. Because I’m in the process.  It’s hard to risk. I can play but it’s hard to risk [my citizenship process],” Santiago told reporters, supporting her alma mater National University in its do-or-die UAAP Final Four game against Far Eastern University on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
