MANILA, Philippines—Filipino bet Mark Barriga yielded to Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan in heartbreaking fashion, 16-17, Saturday in the 2012 London Olympics.
Barriga, who emphatically beat Manuel Cappai of Italy in his opening match, took a 10-8 edge after Round 2.
The five-foot Barriga though, was deducted by a point that proved to be too crucial as Zhakypov chalked up his second straight one-point win after barely escaping Frenchman Jeremy Beccu.
