UAAP: All-heart UST Tigresses still proud of silver finish
MANILA, Philippines — They may have fallen short in getting a different ending, but the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses remained proud of their finish in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
It was the same result for coach KungFu Reyes in his second UAAP women’s volleyball Finals in five years, but he encouraged his undersized but still hardfighting Tigresses–fondly dubbed as Mini Miss UST–to keep their heads up after their unexpected Season 86 Finals run. FULL STORY
UAAP: Healthy Sheena Toring relishes ‘satisfying’ NU championship
MANILA, Philippines — Sheena Toring has completed her unfinished business for National University after playing an instrumental role in the team’s UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Finals sweep of the University of Santo Tomas to capture the championship.
After missing the opportunity to finish last year’s Finals after suffering a knee injury when NU lost the crown to La Salle, Toring helped the Lady Bulldogs complete a successful title redemption while staying healthy. FULL STORY
UAAP: Xyza Gula proves worth for UST Tigresses this season
MANILA, Philippines — Xyza Gula has proven this UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament that she’s always ready whenever her number gets called.
Although Rookie of the Year and 2nd Best Outside Spiker Angge Poyos played through her right ankle sprain in Game 2, her injury from Game 1 limited her from unleashing her lethal form leading to spot minutes playing time. FULL STORY
With nerves of steel, NU Lady Bulldogs reclaim UAAP crown
It all came down to that third frame Wednesday night, with National University (NU) facing set point in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
Bella Belen, who had earlier won her second MVP trophy, steeled the Lady Bulldogs shaken resolve with a kill to extend the set.
But Xyza Gula, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) dynamo who again unloaded fireworks off the bench and steered the Tigresses to a confidence-inflating second set victory, put her team on the verge of a crucial set win with another point. FULL STORY
No-tomorrow mindset fuels Alyssa Solomon to UAAP Finals MVP
MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon turned the UAAP women’s volleyball Finals into her playground, emerging as the MVP of the series to bring back the crown to the National University Lady Bulldogs.
Solomon unleashed her best game of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament with 27 points to complete NU’s title redemption tour with a 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 25-18 win over University of Santo Tomas in Game 2 in front of 22,515 fans at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday. FULL STORY
UAAP: Bella Belen, NU get perfect ending after rough start to season
MANILA, Philippines — The title redemption tour was sweeter for Bella Belen and the NU Lady Bulldogs, proving their doubters wrong after starting the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball season off on the wrong foot,
A sweep loss to the University of Santo Tomas started the Lady Bulldogs’ title redemption bid filled with doubts, but that didn’t stop Belen and the team from slowly but surely returning to the top capped off with the UAAP championships.
Incidentally, it was NU’s time to sweep UST–this time in a UAAP Finals series. FULL STORY

NU Lady Bulldogs sweep UST Tigresses to regain UAAP volleyball title
Alyssa Solomon slid from the back row and knelt before setting up Bella Belen for an authoritative cross court hit, bringing the National University Lady Bulldogs a point away from collaring the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs eventually completed their chase for redemption by defeating the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 25-16, before 22,515 screaming souls at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday night.
“My mindset before the game was to give my best. It was now or never,’’ said Alyssa Solomon, the Finals MVP after they swept the Tigresses in the second game of their best-of-three championship showdown. FULL STORY

Bella Belen wins second UAAP women’s volleyball MVP in three seasons
MANILA, Philippines — Bella Belen was crowned UAAP MVP for a second time hours before Wednesday’s Game 2 of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Finals where National University is looking to complete its title redemption tour against University of Santo Tomas at Mall of Asia Arena.
Belen became the first NU women’s volleyball player to become a two-time MVP — her second top individual honor in three seasons.
The do-it-all outside spiker has joined an elite club of two-time UAAP MVPs with La Salle’s Desiree Hernandez and Aby Maraño, and an award shy of tying three-time winners Alyssa Valdez of Ateneo and Far Eastern University’s Ailyn Ege and Monica Aleta. FULL STORY

UAAP: NU men’s and women’s teams want crowns headed their way
There was no sign of hesitation on coach Dante Alinsunurin’s part when he spoke of his team’s intentions in the UAAP Season 86 volleyball tournament.
“We are focused on our goal to dominate volleyball here in the UAAP,” Alinsunurin said.
He was speaking about the National University (NU) Bulldogs, who are looking to annex a fourth straight men’s crown on Wednesday.
But he might have been referring to the Lady Bulldogs as well. FULL STORY
UAAP: Tiny but mighty Detdet Pepito captures hearts of UST community
MANILA, Philippines—Game 1 of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament wasn’t Detdet Pepito’s breakout game, by any means.
It was her coronation.
Not really as a UAAP champion. No, that situation is quite far from her grasp as the Golden Tigresses succumbed to National University in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Finals.
It was her coronation of being the Thomasian’s champion. FULL STORY
UAAP: History repeats itself even in bad way for UST Tigresses
Some University of Santo Tomas (UST) diehards had held up a sign during the Golden Tigresses’ Final Four match against De La Salle University that read: History Repeats, 5/5/2019.
That streamer talked about how the Tigresses bundled out the defending champion Lady Spikers also in the same phase of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament that year. Surely, those fans want a different ending this season.
But history certainly has a way of repeating itself, even in the most horrific ways. FULL STORY
UAAP: Avoiding Detdet Pepito a joke, but it’s no laughing matter
On the eve of the championship series of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, University of Santo Tomas (UST) skipper Detdet Pepito joked about making a deal with friend and rival Bella Belen about not being targeted by the National University (NU) star spiker.
“Oh, we’ve already talked about it,” the Tigresses’ ace libero told the Inquirer, laughing, after practice at UST gym. “She won’t won’t target me.”
That might be more than just a punchline, though. FULL STORY
