THIS SERIES has seen everything except a winner.
After all the injuries, the great and not-so-great games and the drama on and off the floor, Rain or Shine and B-Meg go at it again one last time today to determine the PBA Governors Cup champion at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The rubber match of the best-of-seven series is set at 6 p.m. and coaches from both squads talked in contrasting manner in approaching the game.
“The good thing about it is that we had two games to correct our mistakes,” Rain or Shine’s Yeng Guiao told scribes Friday night after taking a second straight loss that allowed B-Meg to tie it at 3-3.
“For me, it’s just another game, it’s just another chance to win a championship,” he said, appearing the calmest he has ever been in these title playoffs even after losing crack guard Paul Lee, the biggest reason why his Elasto Painters are here, to injury late in Game 1.
Guiao said that they would not risk Lee even for tonight, although the 6-foot Rookie of the Year, who suffered a dislocated shoulder, had already practiced with the squad as early as the night before Game 6.
Tim Cone, on the other hand, has put all emphasis and importance in the coming match, putting pressure on himself and everyone else in the team by saying that everything will go to naught if they lose.
“We might as well have lost the last two games if we don’t win on Sunday (today),” Cone said. “That’s the big one.”
The Llamados are trying to become the first team since the 1991 Ginebra San Miguel team in the First Conference against Shell to complete a comeback from 1-3 down and rule a best-of-seven title series.
