MANILA, Philippines—Christian Standhardinger was in no mood to celebrate his latest career feat on Sunday. After all, his herculean effort went down the drain after Barangay Ginebra lost to Meralco in Game 2 of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series.

Standhardinger set a career-high 41 points that went with 11 rebounds and four assists but still not enough as the Bolts leveled the series at 1-1.

“I didn’t even think about that,” said Standhardinger.

“I was just trying to read what the right decisions were. Today didn’t help that much so I just had to stay aggressive and when they helped, I found the right man. You don’t think about any statistical-related stuff [in a loss].”

Interestingly, Standhardinger’s previous career high of 39 points he set back in the 2020 Philippine Cup also ended in a loss.

While he downplayed his performance, Standhardinger made sure to give credit to Meralco.

“Meralco’s such a tough team. You have to give them a lot of respect, they grind it out. They play efficient basketball and sometimes it’s not the prettiest but it’s very effective. We just have to make the adjustments and hope we win the next game.”
