MANILA, Philippines—Kai Sotto’s run in the Japan B.League has come to an end. For now, at least.

The Yokohama B-Corsairs have announced that the deal between them and Kai Sotto has expired and no new contract has been signed as of writing.

“We would like to inform you that the limited transfer period of Kai Sotto, who joined from Hiroshima Dragonflies with a limited time transfer, has expired,” the team said in a statement on Tuesday, the same day it was announced that Dwight Ramos re-signed with Levanga Hokkaido.

Sotto’s departure from Yokohama also meant his contract with Hiroshima, valid  midway through June, was set to end.

“The Hiroshima Dragonflies have announced that #11 Kai Sotto, who has been on loan to the Yokohama B-Corsairs, will leave the team as his contract expires on June 15, 2024 (Saturday),” the Dragonflies said in their website.

After not being enforced much by the Dragonflies, Hiroshima loaned Sotto to Yokohama where he shone in the later part of the B.League’s 2023-24 season.

Despite the B-Corsairs not making the playoffs with a 24-36 win-loss record in B1’s Middle District division, Sotto became a silver lining with his stellar play.

The Gilas Pilipinas big normed 12.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in 34 games for Yokohama.

Sotto hasn’t sent out a statement on his next move but he was recently in attendance in PVL and UAAP games in the country.

Though there’s no clear answer on where the Ateneo product goes next, Sotto gave thanks to Yokohama in his latest Instagram post.

“Thank you Yokohama B-Corsairs for giving me a chance to show what I can do to this game that I love the most. Thank you for all the fans and boosters for all your love and support! Nothing but blessings and fun memories this year. TYL (Thank you, Lord),” wrote Sotto.
