Local ice skaters shine in Skate Philippines Summer Championships 2024

Skate Philippines conducted the largest ice-skating competition of 2024 at SM Seaside Cebu last May 10 and 11, 2024. The event was participated by more than 120 skaters coming from various ice skating rinks locally and internationally.

Skate Philippines aims to produce competitive homegrown skaters and provide them with a healthy community. “Let us create our champions instead of importing them,” said by Skate Philippines’ Competition Director Christian Gabriel D. Cruz. Moreover, our team is set to participate in Skate Asia 2024 which will be held in Taipei, Taiwan from August 3 to August 11, 2024. 

Among the hundreds of competitors, Ayesha Devreaux Eguia brought home the “Most Promising Skater” award as she executed her technical routine flawlessly; with artistry and elegance embodied during the routine were Leanne Hailey Go and Francesca Marie San Agustin who both bagged the “Most Artistic Skater” award; dazzling in medals throughout the competition was Deandra Athena Gothong who received the “Most Bemedalled Skater” award under the freestyle level category. While Naomi Corazon Fulache captured the same award under the basic level category; for exemplary discipline and teamwork showcased in their performance was the SM Seaside team as they were declared the “Team Champion”.

Kaila Kamilla Padilla captured the crowd with her poise and was honored as the “Best in Spotlight”in her exquisite butterfly performance; Michelle Ashley Payot delivered an exceptional display of edges and turns, making her as the “Best in Footwork” awardee; to be a Disney princess is one thing, but being crowned with the “Ice Princess Award” is an icy-milestone for Nikki Paisley McKamey; Erish Castillo shined throughout the competition with the “Social Media Star Award”; Love Sparks on Ice won as the “Best Ensemble”; for “Best in Production”, Mega Musical for the small category and Seaside Cebu Team for the large category both stood out; the “Most Illustrious Foreign Competitor” was given to Jennifer Martino; Justine Mendoza received the “Grand Master Skater Award”; Johanna Christabelle Go grabbed the “Open Freeskate Award”; and runner ups for the “Most Bemedalled Skater” award for basic level were Mary Lourdes Fernandes who came first runner up and Sean Louis Yngson as the second runner up. The freestyle level proclaimed Jennifer Martino as the first runner up and Ariani Ricci Mercado as the second runner up. 

Skate Philippines is currently organizing The Skate Philippines Championships which is scheduled by the last quarter of 2024, to produce more homegrown skaters ready for the international scene.
