Romeo sets career-high as FEU pulls off another escape

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University survived University of the Philippines, 73-70, Sunday in the UAAP Season 75 men’s basketball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Explosive guard Terrence Romeo did almost everything on the floor highlighted by a career-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists.

The Tamaraws bounced back from their lone loss at the hands of the National University Bulldogs to share the helm with the Ateneo Blue Eagles at 5-1.

FEU built a commanding 68-53 lead at the 7:56 mark of the final quarter but UP just didn’t go down without a fight.

In fact, the Fighting Maroons even had a chance to force extra session. Mark Lopez though split his charities to only pull his team to within one, 70-71, with five ticks left.

Romeo’s free throws set the final tally as Alvin Padilla’s heave didn’t come close. UP remained winless at 0-5.

The Tamaraws bucked another sub-par outing from their main man RR Garcia, who struggled with five points.

FEU got a huge break late when the referees missed a goaltending call on an Anthony Hargrove block as the ball hit the board first before getting swatted away.

The athletic Hargrove had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Mike Silungan led UP with 12 points while Raul Soyud added 11.
