MANILA, Philippines—After Alas Pilipinas’ stellar run in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for women, the Philippine men’s volleyball team takes its turn.

The Alas men’s team posed for a photo-op before its departure to Isa Town, Bahrain for the men’s iteration of the Challenge Cup from June 2 to 9.

The first order of business for Alas Pilipinas will be against China on Monday at midnight, Manila time.

Leading Alas Pilipinas are head coach Sergio Veloso and assistant coaches Dante Alinsunurin of National University and Odjie Mamon of University of Santo Tomas.

Korean V-League champion and team captain Marck Espejo is set to carry the men’s campaign alongside Cignal HD star Jau Umandal and back-to-back UAAP men’s volleyball MVP Josh Ybañez of the Golden Spikers, who will be playing libero in his national team debut.

NU champions Owa Retamar, Nico Almendras and Jade Disquitado are also with the team.

Another UAAP stalwart Noel Kampton of La Salle, who made the final cut, also makes the trip with the team.
