LONDON—Australian boxer Naomi-Lee Fischer-Rasmussen added a feminine touch to women’s boxing’s historic Olympic debut on Sunday when she wore a skirt in her first-round defeat to Sweden’s Anna Laurell.
Women’s boxing stepped into the Olympic ring for the first time in Games history with flyweight, lightweight and middleweight bouts, but Fischer-Rasmussen favoured a skirt over the customary shorts for her bout.
“What can I say? I just like it. It’s feminine and we are females at the end of the day,” said the 28-year-old, who lost her middleweight bout 24-17 to Laurell.
“It’s better than pulling down my shorts all the time because they have little shorts inside.”
