Bad weather postpones Manila Int’l Marathon

MANILA—The clash between Kenyan and Ethiopian marathoners has to wait for three more months as the Manila International Marathon (MIM) slated Sunday is moved to Sept. 18 due to inclement weather.

Organizer Dino Jose said that with the rains showing no sign of let up, they can’t assure the safety of runners and the field would be badly decimated.

“The route is runner-friendly but the weather would take its toll at the times of the runners,” Jose said.

The MIM aims to erase the 29-year old record set by back-to-back Olympic marathon (1972 Montreal and 1980 Moscow) champion Waldemar Cierpinski of East Germany.
