MANILA, Philippines – Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez will grace the 2012 NBA 3X Philippines presented by Sprite slated on August 17-19 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall and the SM by the Bay in Pasay City.
Apart from making appearances, the seven-foot center, who was recently re-signed by the Nets to a four-year $60 million maximum deal, will also interact with fans through basketball clinics and community events.
“I am very excited to visit the Philippines for this year’s NBA 3X presented by Sprite,” said Lopez, the 10th overall pick in the 2008 Draft. “I know some of the NBA’s most avid fans are in the Philippines and I look forward to bringing a taste of the league to their home country and seeing a great display of basketball talent.”
Lopez, whose squad beefed up big time with the addition of perennial All-star Joe Johnson to form their version of the Big Three with Deron Williams opting to stay, will be accompanied by the Charlotte Lady Cats dancers and the Orlando Magic mascot.
Other basketball events, highlighted by the Sprite Slam Dunk contest, are Sprite Skills Challenge and KFC Bucket 3-Point Shootout. NBA merchandise will also be given away.
Players from the local professional and college leagues, as well as local celebrities, will also attend the event.
The NBA 3X will also feature try-outs for the Sprite Uncontainable Game where two Philippine finalists will be selected to be part of the global pool led by Team USA stars LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. If picked by either James or Bryant to be part of their respective team, the finalists will get a trip to the 2013 NBA All Star Game.
