The torrential rains that hit Metro Manila forced the UAAP yesterday to cancel the scheduled men’s basketball tournament for the second time this season.

University of Santo Tomas and Adamson had their separate games today called off, just two weeks after both squads also had their other matches cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Tigers were supposed to go for a fourth straight triumph versus the winless University of the East, while the Falcons were set to take on La Salle at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

UAAP secretary treasurer Junel Baculi made the announcement yesterday, adding that the pair of matches will be moved to a later date.

For the struggling Falcons, it may mean more time to regroup after they absorbed another blow with main man Alex Nuyles dropping out for the rest of the season due to injury.

“It will be very hard for me to leave the team in the middle of the season,” said Nuyles, who dislocated his right shoulder during the Falcons’ 62-77 loss to National U last Sunday.

Nuyles, a member of the Mythical Team last season, said he will undergo a shoulder operation soon.

Seniors action resumes this Saturday with the Tigers (3-2) and the Falcons (1-3) tangling at 2 p.m, right before winless teams University of the Philippines (0-5) and the University of the East (0-4) gun for their first win at 4 p.m. at the Philsports Arena.

Last July 21, the league also cancelled the Adamson-UE and UST-UP games due to a tropical storm. Both matches have been moved to Aug. 15.
