MANILA, Philippines–Germy Mahinay came into the PBA Rookie Draft looking to fulfill a lifelong dream of making the big league.
If Mahinay somehow gets his name called in Sunday’s proceedings and subsequently secures a contract, it will also serve as a chance for the bulky big man to mend his ways after a moment of madness led to a severe suspension in the MPBL.
“I really made a big mistake that time,” Mahinay said in Filipino when asked about the flagrant foul he committed while playing for Negros in one of his games in the regional circuit last April.

The MPBL handed Mahinay an indefinite suspension and a P100,000 fine after the National University product undercut Joey Barcuma of Zamboanga while the latter was going for a layup in the game held in Binan, Laguna.
While his suspension has not been lifted, Mahinay expressed regret over the incident.
“To the fans, players and coaches who were angry with what I did, I ask for forgiveness and I will try my best to clean up my act on the court,” said Mahinay.

Interestingly, commissioner Willie Marcial had a short chat with Mahinay, apparently to remind the applicant of the consequences that could arise of a similar incident happens on the PBA turf.
Known for his rebounding, Mahinay vows to be somewhat of a serviceable big man in the event he gets drafted.
“I will always give a lot of effort in what I can do and do my part whenever the team needs me,” he said.
