MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ last chance for a medal in the London 2012 Olympics didn’t exactly start off well.

Fil-American Daniel Caluag clocked in second to the last among 32 bikers in the seeding run of the men’s BMX competition Wednesday in London.

But Caluag, though, has an ample chance to redeem himself and still get that elusive medal.

Caluag was 3.121 ticks behind the leader Netherlands’ Raymond Van Der Biezen, who had a time of 37.779, and ahead of Latvia’s Edzuz Treimanis, who did not finish the race.

The seeding run was just to determine which heat Caluag will be placed in for the quarterfinals and doesn’t eliminate him from the competition.

Caluag will be in Gate 8 in Heat 3 on Thursday, alongside some of the riders who made it to the top 10 in the seeding run.
