MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala earned a new career-high world ranking of 155 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) making a big leap from No. 162 two weeks ago.
Inspired by her new WTA world rank-high two days ago, Eala and her French partner Estelle Cascino reached the W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz doubles quarterfinal after beating home bets and sisters Carolina and Jimena Gomez, 6-3, 6-2, on Tuesday (Manila time) in Spain.
Eala and Cascino swept the Spanish siblings in just 56 minutes to set a duel against Victoria Bervid of Czechia and Laura Mair of Italy on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Filipino netter won a doubles title with her French partner in the W75 Croissy-Beaubourg in France last March.
Eala will also compete in the W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz on Wednesday against Lian Tran of the Netherlands.
The Filipino prodigy recently fell short in the Wimbledon main draw after yielding to New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, 7-6(3), 7-5, in the final round of qualifier last month.
