Ungria lifts Tiger Cubs past Blue Eaglets; Junior Archers, Bullpups reign

MANILA, Philippines — Tiger Cub Alvin Ungria took charge late in the game to tow University of Santo Tomas to a 83-77 victory over Ateneo Blue Eaglets in the resumption of the 75th UAAP juniors basketball Friday.

National University Bullpups, meanwhile, cruised past winless University of the East junior Warriors, 78-59, at the San Juan Arena to remain unscathed in five outings.

Reggienal Morido finished with 19 points and 11 boards for the Bullpups while Raphael Atangan added 14 points, six boards and four assists.

Ungria, who’s been the Tigers Cubs’ most consistent scorer as of late, on the other hand, exploded for 31 points — half of those in the seesaw payoff period to help his squad seize the edge.

Ungria also plucked 14 boards and registered three blocks, but it his personal 8-0 run with under 5 minutes left that won the game for UST.

With the victory, UST shattered the tie with Ateneo in the standings and upped its record to 3-2.

De La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers dominated Adamson Baby Falcons in the open court, getting the bulk of its points from fastbreak, for a 78-69 victory in the other game.

Henri Subido racked up 24 points along with seven boards, and six dimes to lead the Juniors Archers to a tie with UST at 3-2.

The Baby Falcons absorbed their fourth setback in five starts despite Alwin Margallo’s 22 points and 13 rebounds.
