Team Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio toyed with Indian rival Jaismine in the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s 57-kilogram boxing tournament at past midnight Wednesday (Manila time), coasting in the final round to save something for her next bout.

Petecio advanced to the round-of-16, where she will face hometown bet and No. 3 seed Amina Zidani, who drew a bye in the opening round. FULL STORY

Just hours after Filipino rower Joanie Delgaco and judoka Kiyomi Watanabe bowed out of the medal race, Sanchez advanced to the women’s 100m freestyle semifinal on Tuesday at Paris La Defense Arena. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—China’s Tang Jing quickly repulsed any hopes for a Team Philippines medal finish in the women’s judo competition at the Paris Olympics 2024.

In the women’s -63kg elimination round of 32, Tang quickly disposed of Filipino bet Kiyomi Watanabe with an ippon at Champ-de-Mars Arena in Paris on Tuesday afternoon (Manila time). FULL STORY

The core of the crack Philippine boxing delegation plunges into action in the Paris Olympics on Tuesday with Games first-timer Aira Villegas getting the team off on the right foot with a swashbuckling conquest of a Moroccan foe in the opening round of the women’s 50-kilogram division.

Villegas scored a 5-0 win over Yasmine Mouttaki at North Paris Arena in France on Monday, giving the rest of the team the jumpstart it needs as Nesthy Petecio and Eumir Marcial climb the same ring looking to better performances that fell just short of the gold medal in Tokyo 2020.

The 28-year-old Villegas, who became emotional after the win, will be clashing with Algerian fighter Roumaysa Boualam, the second-seed, on Friday at 2 a.m. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Eumir Marcial has yet to make his debut at the Paris Olympics 2024 but he already felt like a winner days before his opening bout.

Marcial on Monday ticked off an item on his bucket list after meeting one of his boxing heroes in former pound-for-pound king Gennady Golovkin at the Olympic Village in France.

“Look who I bumped into at the Olympic Village. The legendary and one of my favorite boxers in the history of the world of boxing,” Marcial wrote on his Instagram. FULL STORY
