MANILA, Philippines–Creamline showed no signs of rust and picked up its second straight win in Pool A of the PVL Reinforced Conference on Tuesday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Bernadeth Pons shone with a conference-best 25 points apart from 23 excellent receptions to lift the Cool Smashers over Chery Tiggo, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 25-19.

“We’re starting to gain momentum after two straight wins and I hope we continue winning to improve our standing as we face the teams in the other bracket,” coach Sherwin Meneses, whose squad was coming off a 10-day break, said in Filipino.

“[My motivation] is my last game because I was a bit disappointed with myself and my performance. I know in myself that I can do more and contribute more to the team,” said Pons, who had a quiet nine points in a win over Farm Fresh on July 20.

American reinforcement Erica Staunton added 21 points for Creamline, Michele Gumabao tallied 17 points and Bea de Leon contributed 12 points. Kyle Negrito also stepped up with 27 excellent sets.

The Cool Smashers overcame a 31-point effort by Crossovers reinforcement Khat Bell.

“Every conference is the same, whether you’re first six or not, you need to do your role,” Pons said after stepping up for her missing teammates including Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza and Tots Carlos.

“Coach said to not look for those who are not here. Whoever is here should do so it’s good because we got to adjust in the system including our import and our game is improving,” she added.

Chery Tiggo dropped to a 2-1 card.

Creamline plays Nxled on August 8 in a game that was supposed to be played last Thursday before being postponed due to Typhoon Carina.
