MANILA, Philippines—Alas Pilipinas failed to open its SEA VLeague Thailand leg on a winning note as the home bets subdued the Philippines, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16, at Nakhon, Ratchasima in Thailand on Friday night.
The Filipino spikers, who are coming off a bronze finish in the Vietnam leg with a 1-2 record, also lost to Thailand a few days ago, 25-12, 25-18, 25-10.
Thailand went on a resounding 10-5 start in the third set, mirroring its domination in the first two sets that made Alas look down the barrel of a 0-2 disadvantage.
The Thais kept it steady until the end even building a 20-12 advantage against the Filipinos.
Thailand made easy work of the Philippines despite committing more errors than Alas, 23-14.
Faith Nisperos and Eya Laure paced Alas in the loss with six points each. No Philippine team player scored in double digits.
Moksri Chatchu-on spearheaded the Thais with 19 points while Kokram Pimpichaya helped the cause with 12 to her name.
Up next for Alas is Vietnam on Saturday, 4 pm. Thauland, meanwhile, faces off with Indonesia to try and keep its record unblemished in the Thailand leg.
