MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday called for support from government agencies and other stakeholders for the country’s hosting of the 22nd Asian Karate Youth Championship from August 22 to 25.

In a statement on Saturday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said that Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed a two-page Memorandum Circular No. 55 last July 16, saying that the 22nd Asian Karate Youth Championship will be held at the Philsports Multi-purpose Arena in Pasig City.

The memorandum will take effect immediately, PCO said.

The Philippines, through the Philippine Sports Commission in collaboration with the Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation Inc., will host the 22nd Asian Karate Federation Cadets, Juniors, and U21 Championships, with 38 countries and around 900 athletes participating.

“The Asian Karate Federation Championships is a highly-anticipated tournament of Karate in Asia, which aims to bring together the best young Karate athletes from across the region,” Marcos said.

“The hosting of said event in the Philippines will not only promote the sport of Karate in the country, but will also serve as an opportunity for training of Filipino athletes,” he added.
