MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon won the Best Opposite Spiker in the SEA VLeague Leg 2 to cap Alas Pilipinas’ second straight bronze medal finish in the tournament.
After leading Alas to another bronze finish with a come-from-behind 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10 win over Indonesia, Solomon was crowned as the second leg’s top opposite spiker on Sunday in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Solomon, who struggled with a total of six points in their first two games, waxed hot in their final game with 25 points built on 21 kills out of 35 attack attempts and four blocks to complete a comeback against the Indonesians.

The National University standout won her second individual award in the SEA VLeague after being named last year’s Best Opposite Spiker in the second leg, where she led a team spearheaded by the Lady Bulldogs’ core.
Solomon was the lone Filipino player to be part of the mythical team, which was bannered by back-to-back MVP Chatchu-on Moksri, who led Thailand to its seventh straight title as the Thais swept the tournament anew with a championship-clinching 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 over Vietnam.
The reigning UAAP Finals MVP averaged 13.7 points in the first leg and tallied 10.3 points in the second, emerging as the national team’s top scorer.

Moksri was also named Best Outside Spiker with Vietnam’s Vi Thi Nhu Quynh. Thai playmaker Pornpun Guedpard won the Best Setter. The Best Middle Blockers were Thatdao Nuekjang of Thailand and Wida Nurfadhilah of Indonesia, while the Best Libero was Nguyen Khanh Dang of Vietnam.
In the first leg, Jia De Guzman was named the Best Setter while Thea Gagate was recognized as one of the two Best Middle Blockers.
Alas Pilipinas finished its campaign with a 2-4 record with both of its wins coming at the expense of Indonesia as it failed to match up against world-class clubs Thailand and Vietnam.
