PVL: Cignal overcomes Marina Tushova, Capital1 to book semis spot
Cignal earned the first semifinal seat in the PVL Reinforced Conference despite Capital1’s Marina Tushova’s 50-point explosion on Saturday at FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The HD Spikers pulled away with a hard-fought 25-19, 36-34, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12 triumph behind MJ Perez’s 34 points, all but one from attacks, apart from 15 excellent receptions.
“My mind was always positive, I was thinking all the time and praying all the time that this is our game and I was telling the girls, keeping on talking to them the whole game this is ours, this is ours,” Perez said.

KO phase of PVL Reinforced Conference gets going
Every game for Akari is an opportunity to be better and take a step closer to something it has never achieved before. And the Chargers are not planning on wasting that chance.
“We are on the way to what we want to achieve. We have a very good run so far [because] of teamwork and not making it a one-man show,” Akari mainstay Michelle Cobb said as the unbeaten Chargers go into the PVL Reinforced Conference playoffs as the No. 1 seed looking to show No. 8 Farm Fresh the door on Saturday at FilOil EcoOil Centre.
“We need to continue wanting it because we are already here and we have worked for this. All of us have the mindset of no turning back,” Cobb added. “Expect us to step it up a notch in the quarters … all of us will be focused on one direction.”
PVL: Bedonia gives PLDT boost ahead of quarterfinals
The important thing for PLDT at the moment is for the maturity of its veteran players to rub off on its younger wing spikers.
Kiesha Bedonia got the memo.
Bedonia, one of the team’s young guns, has displayed she has what it takes to help her team when push comes to shove despite being a role player.
And at this stage of the PVL Reinforced Conference, she might just be the boost that the High Speed Hitters need.
“My priority is to deliver for our team,” Bedonia told the Inquirer in Filipino. “I don’t think of anything else like how matured our opponent is or my teammates.”
PVL: Wilma Salas, Angels brace for ‘difficult’ duel vs Creamline
MANILA, Philippines — Wilma Salas and Petro Gazz are bracing for a tough quarterfinal game against 2019 Finals rival Creamline in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference
The showdown set for Tuesday is a rematch of the 2019 Reinforced Conference finals between the Angels and Cool Smashers, this time with the returning Cuban import seeking to extend Petro Gazz’s dynasty and win it for late teammate Janisa Johnson.
“With Creamline, many people are waiting for this game. It’s difficult, but we go to the court for a fight. We go to the court for everything. We have more [confidence] with the younger players now [after a slow start],” said Salas after pouring in 21 points in their 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 win over Chery Tiggo on Thursday to seal the sixth place.
PVL: Without key players, Creamline leaning on proven system
MANILA, Philippines — Creamline may have been missing its super trio Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, and Jema Galanza, but setter Kyle Negrito believes its system and familiarity remain the team’s biggest edge in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference quarterfinals.
“The quarterfinals is the most important game for us so we have to be extra focused,” said Negrito in Filipino. “We’re still the same Creamline regardless of who is playing. We’ve been together for a long time so no problem for us. As coach said, we will keep on trusting each other.”
Creamline secured the third seed ahead of the knockout quarterfinal next week after sweeping the winless ZUS Coffee, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22, on Thursday at FilOIl EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
