PBA: Jhonard Clarito continues to prove worth for Rain or Shine

MANILA, Philippines—Jhonard Clarito proved he was deserving of the Season 48 Most Improved Player award with his performance in Rain or Shine’s victory over NLEX in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday.
Clarito became the Elasto Painters’ source of offense in their 124-105 win over the Road Warriors to take the solo lead in Group B of the import-laden conference.
Article continues after this advertisementDespite taking the lion’s share of credit though, Clarito showed his unselfishness by crediting his teammates for his stellar performance that pushed Rain or Shine to a 3-0 record.

“We started this in practice. We’re always competitive there and we just brought it to the game,” said Clarito in Filipino.
Article continues after this advertisement“My teammates are always there to support me, that’s why we always enjoy it. Even if I miss shots, they’re there. They guide me on my mistakes. If we commit a turnover, we’re guided on what we should do on offense.”
But Clarito didn’t miss.
In fact, literally, he went perfect from the field in nine tries. The reigning MIP awardee finished with 24 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds.
His exemplary outing for Rain or Shine, however, doesn’t guarantee “perfection” as a whole. After all, Clarito believes that he still has so much to improve on.

“I’m still improving my defense and outside shooting. There’s still a lot I need to work on. I work on those every practice.”
Coach Yeng Guiao himself was in awe of Clarito’s outing on Wednesday, even giving him a moniker reminiscent of NBA Legend Michael Jordan.
“Do you guys mean Michael Jhonard? We now call him that,” said Guiao in jest.
“He’s deserving. He’s hardworking in practice. Even if you scream at him or curse him, it’s nothing to him. His perseverance and patience paid off and his teammates support him,” added the veteran mentor.
