Ian Thorpe looking beyond London 2012

/ 06:48 AM June 26, 2011

PARIS—Five-time Australian Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe said Saturday he might continue competing after next year’s London Olympics.

Thorpe, 28, returning to the pool from retirement in 2006, confided: “For the moment I’ve the intention of continuing swimming after the London Games. But I’m going to see how the Games and the training goes.”

Thorpe, here to attend the Paris swimming championships as a spectator, is training in Switzerland.

“I thought it was better to train outside Australia. It’s tough to be so far from your family and friends but Europe seemed to me the best place for the London Games and afterwards.”
