PBA: Mamuyac says Rain or Shine team effort got job done

MANILA, Philippines—Gian Mamuyac was hailed the best player in Rain or Shine’s rout of Phoenix in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday.
Mamuyac, however, refused to take all the credit, owing his performance to the whole team.

Whoever’s inserted in the game is willing to do the job and ready to step up… It just so happened that tonight, it was me,” said Mamuyac in Filipino their 122-107 win over the Fuel Masters that kept the Elasto Painters on top of Group B at 5-1.
“Overall, I think our efforts just combined and they (Phoenix) just got tired in the end which made our lives easier because they all got tired.”

True enough, the Elasto Painters had eight players scoring at least 10 points with Mamuyac tallying 14 on top of four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Import Aaron Fuller and sophomore guard Adrian Nocum led Rain or Shine offensively with 16 apiece while also grabbing 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Rookies Felix Lemetti and Caelan Tiongson made their presence felt as well with 12 points each.

“In our system with coach Yeng and our culture as a team, nobody’s envious of anyone. Coach even sits with different people here [post-game conference] as proof,” the former Ateneo standout said.
“Our system with coach gives equal opportunities for everyone. At any given night, anyone can have a good night and I think that makes our team unpredictable and hard to prepare for.”
The balanced scoring was a result of Rain or Shine’s unselfishness on the offensive end where the Painters dished out 31 assists on 41 made field goals.
Mamuyac and the Elasto Painters look to maintain their winning ways when they face Ginebra on Friday at Araneta Coliseum.
