Last year’s runner up STI and Fatima scored impressive wins over their respective rivals Tuesday to register their second victories in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities basketball tournament at Lumera Gym in Taguig.
STI, the 2007 champion and bridesmaid to University of Manila last year, stopped New Era, 74-65, behind MacLean Sabellina and Cedric Ablaza, who had for 12 points each.
It was the Olympians’ second win after losing the opening game to St. Clare.
Abe Chavez added 11 points for STI, while Symon Santos, Leo Angelo Roncal and Mc Sevilla turned in double-digit scores for the losing side, which absorbed its second loss in three games.
Benjie Jimenez powered Fatima to a 77-71 victory over AMA Computer in the other seniors game to give the Phoenix their second win in three outings.
CEU Baby Scorpions drew 20 points from Jason Opiso to defeat Fatima, 78-64. Trace also scored in juniors action with a 73-62 win over New Era. AMACU blasted St. Clare also in juniors, 94-91, through the heroics of Clark Quijano, who topscored with 18 points.
