Duque, Villaroman fancied in JPGT national finals
The best young talents in the country battle it out next week in the ICTSI Junior PGT Match Play finals, the culmination of a five-month circuit aimed at seeing the future landscape of Philippine golf.
A total of 63 players from four age groups for boys and girls will be teeing off on Oct. 2 for the classification round, before play shifts to match the following day as The Country Club in Laguna, regarded as the stiffest test in the land, hosts the event.
Laurea Duque leads the bets in the centerpiece 15-18 division for girls, while Patrick Tambalque and Zach Villaroman, who also represent Luzon, are the players to watch in the boys’ side.
Article continues after this advertisementThe youngest bracket is for the 8-9 in both boys and girls as the tournament successfully staged legs all throughout the country to find out those worthy of being called the unofficial junior match play champion at the end of the week.
A similar format also ends the regular men’s and ladies’ events of the professional PGT.
The first round of the 8-9 bracket will also be played on the first day, with the quarterfinals of the other divisions to be held on Oct. 3 and the final four and title matches the following day.
