UST, Ateneo handily put away foes in UAAP juniors hoops

MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas handily defeated Adamson, 80-69, just as Ateneo clobbered La Salle-Zobel, 86-64, Friday in the 75th UAAP juniors basketball at the Arena in San Juan.

Tiger Cubs’ ace Alvin Ungria scored 21 points and plucked 17 boards as his squad caught up the league-leaders with their third straight victory for a 5-2 slate.

Meanwhile, Antonio Asistio nailed 17 points and Thirdy Ravena had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Blue Eaglets’ fourth victory with three losses.

UST grabbed third place, while Ateneo came in next as National University and Far Eastern University-Diliman remain atop the standings with a 6-0 slate.

The Bullpups-Baby Tamaraws game, a rematch of last year’s championship, was scheduled to a later date as two of their players are on international duty with Energen Pilipinas in the Fiba-Asia tournament.

University of the Philippines Integrated School, on the other hand, notched its second win in seven starts with a 60-44 victory over winless University of the East.

The Junior Maroons have already eclipsed their record last season of just one win.

The Baby Falcons and the Junior Warriors sunk to the cellar with 1-6 and 0-7 records, respectively.
