NCAA: Letran wins second straight, JRU zooms past Arellano

MANILA, Philippines—Letran has entered the derby for the top spot following a 75-73, win over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament.

The Knights defeated the Generals, winning second straight after beating leader College of St. Benilde last Sunday.

Letran’s victory also created a logjam for the second spot behind the Blazers with a 4-2 card along with Perpetual Help, which holds an identical record.

Kevin Santos came alive at the right time for the Knights with 17 points and five rebounds. Deo Cuajao and rookie Sherick Estrada also finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Generals, meanwhile, slid to a 2-4 card despite King Gurtiza’s stellar outing of 19 points built on three triples.

Jose Rizal University, meanwhile,  got back on track after trouncing Arellano, 92-89.

With a 2-4 card, the Heavy Bombers are making do after opening the season with four straight losses.

Marvin Raymundo dominated for JRU with 21 points and seven rebounds while Shawn Argente had himself a 20-piece in the win that tied the Heavy Bombers with San Sebastian with a similar slate.

The Chiefs remained in the bottom of the pack with a 1-5 card despite another all-around effort from Jaedan Ongotan, who finished with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Arellano looks to gain back its winning ways when it faces defending champion San Beda on Saturday.
