MANILA, Philippines — The National University Lady Bulldogs are grateful to have PVL multi-titled coach Sherwin Meneses leading the team in their title-retention bid in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament next year.

Meneses, who won PVL seven titles with Creamline,  is set to make his return to the collegiate ranks in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship, where NU eyes a ‘three-peat’.

“We’re really grateful that coach Sherwin accepted the offer and went to the NU family because his level of experience is different,” NU team manager Gelina Luceño said in Filipino. “He’s been handling a champion team in the PVL and his experience and knowledge will help our players improve for our league.”

The decorated professional coach, who took the coaching reins of NU last month to replace Norman Miguel, already made his debut for the Lady Bulldogs in the ongoing 2024 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

“They’re experiencing an international tournament as well as their first tournament with coach Sherwin. The team is adjusting but based on the system, it’s not that far from ours,” Luceño said.

“The team is really grasping and gelling with their coach. Because it will be better you’re with the coach for a long time. The girls they’ve already been together for a long time.”

More than having the PVL grand slam coach, the Lady Bulldogs also have MVPs Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, who decided to play one more year with their batchmates Sheena Toring, Erin Pangilinan, and Lams Lamina, at their disposal keeping the NU core intact with Vange Alinsug, Arah Panique, and Abe Pono.

“It’s really important because the younger girls have an Ateno to look after. They have somebody who’s gonna guide them with a lot of experience, a lot of confidence, and who will trust them. We know that they could lead the team to greater heights,” the team manager said.

NU, which ruled the past two Pre-season championship and this year’s National Invitationals, opens its campaign on October 4 against Ateneo in Pool A, where it will also face Arellano University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, and San Beda University.
