University of the East continued to pick itself up from a slow start in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament after quashing National University, 57-51, Saturday night at Mall of Asia Arena.

After a 0-2 start, the Red Warriors are now on a three-game winning streak with John Abate leading the way with 15 points and six rebounds and Ethan Galang, who provided the finishing touches with his free throws, contributing seven points, six rebounds and three assists.

“I am so happy again that the boys responded very well. Actually we had a bad practice yesterday but I am glad that all the players, especially those coming off the bench, stepped up and they followed our game plan down the stretch,” said coach Jack Santiago.

MANILA, Philippines — Terrence Fortea provided the much-needed spark off the bench as the University of the Philippines overcame a flat start to stay unbeaten in five games in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

Fortea made the most of his 16 minutes of play with 13 points on a perfect 3-of-3 three-point shooting to help UP past Adamson, 69-57, on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“I started preparing my mindset from the bench, so that when coach gave me a chance, I could make the most of the minutes I got. I’m happy that I was able to contribute to today’s game,” said the fourth-year guard, who also had five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.

MANILA, Philippines — Tasked to bring energy and extra possessions, Quentin Millora-Brown continued to crash the boards for the University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

Millora-Brown tallied his second straight double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds to help UP overcome a slow start and beat Adamson, 69-57, for their fifth straight win on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“[The] board man gets paid as they say in the NBA. So for me, I think that just taking pride in every rebound I can get,” Millora-Brown told reporters. “The offensive rebounds, especially, can really help our team if we’re struggling offensively to find some rhythm, find points when we can’t. Just do it straight off of our flow, so, for me, I’ve always taken pride in it and I think that finding ways to just keep trying to improve that stat.”

MANILA, Philippines–University of the Philippines climbed out of a deep hole to remain perfect in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Fighting Maroons erased a 22-point deficit to overcome the Adamson Falcons, 69-57, for their fifth consecutive win.

“Sometimes, there really are games like that,” UP coach Goldwin Monteverde said in Filipino. “We were really trying to execute offensively in the first half but our shots were not falling.”

MANILA, Philippines — National University extended its unbeaten streak to six games after routing University of the East,  67-39, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the Lady Warriors from the get-go and led as many as 33 after Pringle Fabruada’s four straight points tallied a 62-39 spread with 3:30 left.

NU stretched its winning streak against UE to 27 games, limiting the latter to under 40 points — the first team to score below 40 since the Lady Bulldogs dealt the Lady Warriors a 61-point beating, 92-31, last Nov. 13, 2022 in Season 85. FULL STORY
