St. Clare, Centro Escolar sustain winning run
ST. CLARE and Centro Escolar sustained their rampage with runaway victories over their respective foes Friday for their fourth win in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities men’s basketball at New Era University.
Jeff Viernes and Eugene Torres made their usual tour of duty for the Saints but this time got ample support from teammates in blasting the Trace College Stallions, 100-53.
It was the Saints’ best start in the league thus far after acquiring the formidable backcourt of the University of Manila whose basketball program closed shop this season.
Article continues after this advertisementViernes accounted for 15 points, while Torres scored 14 for St. Clare which also got double-digit outputs from Raymond Jammer who had 11 and Marte Gil who chipped in 10. The Stallions fell to the bottom of the eight-team heap at 0-4.
Axel Garcia banged in 28 points, while Mark Guillen and Eulogio Lamosa added 15 each as Centro Escolar drubbed New Era, 85-62.
The Scorpions also posted their fourth win in as many games to tie St. Clare in the lead, while handing the Hunters’ their second loss in three games.

Jeffrel Mark Lasco lifted the Baby Scorpions to an 86-37 rout of the Baby Hunters in the juniors division. The Baby Saints made it a twin win with an 89-70 triumph over the Baby Stallions. The Lady Scorpions also posted a win, beating the Lady Phoenix, 94-36.
