PBA: Ginebra takes 2-1 semis lead over San Miguel

DASMARIÑAS, CAVITE — Justin Brownlee did a little bit of everything on Sunday night to will Barangay Ginebra past San Miguel, 99-94, and give the Gin Kings a 2-1 lead in the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals

The resident Gin Kings import finished with 30 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and five blocks to help the crowd darlings gain some sort of control in the best-of-seven duel and rebound from an overtime loss last Friday night.

“We had some uncertain moments in the third quarter when we came out of halftime, but thanks to this guy here, we recovered. Thanks to this guy again down the stretch, we were able to win. And thanks to this guy and thanks to this guy,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said.

“That was basically the story [and] we just played better defense tonight, I felt,” he went on.

Japeth Aguilar had 22 points and eight rebounds, while Maverick Ahanmisi 15 and 11. Stephen Holt added 11 points while Scottie Thompson and rookie RJ Abarrientos tossed in eight each in the triumph fashioned inside the packed City of Dasmariñas Arena here.

Import EJ Anosike was just as steady for San Miguel, putting up 32 points and 10 rebounds.

The Beermen, however, saw their local stars dip in their production, with CJ Perez finishing with just 13 points and Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo getting held to 12 points. Terrence Romeo, the Caviteño who was big in the last encounter, finished with only eight.

Game 4 is on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
