MANILA, Philippines–Filipino prospect Jayr Raquinel went into the enemy’s territory and took home the WBC Continental Americas super flyweight title on Sunday.
Coming into the fight as the underdog, Raquinel stunned home bet Yahir Frank on points to silence the crowd in Hermosillo, Mexico.
Raquinel hiked his record to 16-2-1 with 13 knockouts after winning by unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.

The Cauayan, Negros Occidental native dealt Frank his first loss, snapping the Mexican’s 17 fight winning streak.
Raquinel chalked up his fifth consecutive victory and the second straight time he beat an opponent on his own turf after he stopped former title contender Komgrich Nantapech of Thailand five months ago in Bangkok.
The 27-year-old Raquinel’s last loss came at the hands of compatriot Giemel Magramo three years ago. Magramo once challenged for the WBO flyweight belt but got knocked out by Junto Nakatani.
