Alcantara, Reyes outclass Olivarez-Philta Open foes

FRACIS Casey Alcantara and Marc Reyes sustained their sharp forms even as Jeson Patrombon and Johnny Arcilla debuted with rousing wins Saturday night in the Olivarez-Philta Open tennis championships presented by Palawan Pawnshop Express Pera Padala at Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat.

Alcantara, the 2009 Australian Open juniors doubles titlist, shut out 10th seed Kim Saraza, 6-0, 6-0, while the Filipino-Italian Reyes clobbered Rollie Anasta, 6-0, 6-1, to reach the third round.

Patrombon, the top seed, opened his bid with a 6-2, 6-2 rout of John Rey Moreno while the second-seeded defending champion Arcilla whipped Gabriel Peña, 6-2, 6-0.

Alcantara, an athletic scholar at Fresno State University, advanced against fifth seed Rolando Ruel, who bested Radharani Reyes, 7-5, 6-1.

Reyes, a finalist in the 2009 PCA Open, will tangle next with Michael Mantua, who eliminated No. 12 Antonio Sagansay, 6-3, 7-5.

Next up for Patrombon is 14-year-old wonder Alberto Lim Jr. Arcilla was playing Arc Dolorico at presstime.

Top seed Eric Jed Olivarez barged into the boys’ 18-under quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Dolorico. He will take on sixth seed Romnee Joseph, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Marc Concepcion.

Olivarez advanced along with Calvin Canlas, Andrew Cano, Francisco Santos, Joel Cabusas, Benjamin Parpan and second seed Argil Canizares.
