University of Santo Tomas scored two stoppage time goals to beat Far Eastern University, 4-2, and gain a share of third place in the UAAP Season 87 men’s football tournament Thursday night at UP Football Stadium.

Archie Belluga slotted the spot kick to put the Golden Booters ahead, 3-2, as Richard Songalia collided with Tamaraws keeper Jet Fabrigas and was awarded a penalty.

Rookie Kristien Elopre’s goal deep in added time put an icing on the cake for UST.

“Credit to players, the played all out, 100%,” said assistant coach Arman Esteban. “They really wanted to win today, especially after the subs were able to deliver the chances and convert goals.

FEU’s Mel Baylon was given a straight red in the next possession for hitting John Selarde.

The Golden Booters moved into a tie with the Tamaraws at nine points, but the Morayta-based side is ahead on goal difference. UST is ahead of joint fourth placers De La Salle and University of the East, both at seven points.

Captain TJ Garciano scored on a Kyler Escobar cross in the 66th minute to give the Golden Booters a 2-1 advantage.

Al Galario produced a fine finish from a Khent Valenzuela assist for the 78th minute equalizer for FEU.

Jan Baito beat Ace Amita for the possession and cooly sank the 39th minute opener for the Golden Booters.

The Tamaraws equalized as birthday boy Karl Absalon finally scored one over goalkeeper Jose Abada with a glancing header in the 52nd minute.

FEU had several scoring opportunities in the first half, but Abada, who foiled Absalon’s potential 15th minute first goal, was there to protect the post.

Edgar Aban, who scored five goals this season for the Tamaraws, missed his second straight match due to injury.

Up next for FEU is a rematch of last season’s final against University of the Philippines on Sunday.

On the same day, UST’s final first round match will be against league-leading Ateneo de Manila University.
